OUR SCHOOL BAG
Our school bags consist of 88% renewable raw materials, with the goal of continuously shifting this closer to 100%.
The long search for the right materials led us to a weaving mill in Germany that produces GOTS-certified organic cotton—a rainproof and robust all-weather fabric also used for workwear.
The wool felt used is also manufactured in Germany and provides stability and carrying comfort on the inside. The edges and the base of the bags are made of vegetable-tanned leather, protecting against abrasion in the turbulent everyday life of a child. The school bags are also padded on the back and the straps. On the back, there is a compartment for folders and binders so that the weight is kept as close to the child as possible. There is also a bottle holder, a key ring, and a smaller compartment for odds and ends. The closures are magnetic and intuitive to open and close. Reflective piping ensures visibility during the darker months.
With the CUSTOM TOOL, you can also combine fabric, strap color, and leather however you like.
The bags are manufactured for the respective next delivery date at the HÄNSKA studio in Berlin-Charlottenburg, where the rest of the collection of high-quality bags, backpacks, and accessories is also designed and produced.
Is the cotton really water-repellent?
Yes, guaranteed for any rain shower on the way to school.
How long do I have to wait until the order is ready?
Please pay attention to the stated delivery times.
- If in stock, it will be shipped within 5 days and likely delivered within that timeframe as well.
- If it needs to be produced, it can take up to 6 weeks.
- Custom pieces take up to 3 months, depending on order volume. However, we usually manage it in about 4 weeks.
How do I clean the school bag?
Simply clean the cotton with a brush and a little water, using gall soap if necessary, and wash out the dirt and soap with a damp cloth.
The leather is vegetable-tanned and develops a patina over time. This happens all by itself through sunlight and touch. For maintenance, it can occasionally be treated with leather grease, though not too often as the leather needs to breathe and the pores should not be clogged.
I don't live in Berlin, is there still a way to see/try on the school bag in my city?
You can order a school bag that is in stock and try it on in peace at home. If you don't like it, you can simply send it back within 14 days and get a refund, minus the shipping costs.
Should you decide on a different model and want to exchange the bag, you do not have to pay additional shipping costs for a second delivery.
What is the interior layout of the school bag?
There is one large A4-capable compartment in the front and one in the back; in the flap, there is a zippered compartment for odds and ends. A water bottle or keys can be attached to a strap with a carabiner. In between, there is space for more books, a lunchbox, etc.

Do the school bags meet DIN standards?
We have not had our school bag officially tested to see if it meets DIN standards, so we do not have an official test certificate.
The characteristics of our school bag focus on sustainability, lightness, and design.
If your child's walk to school involves walking through poorly lit streets, a brand with fluorescent materials and a large number of reflective surfaces is certainly the better choice.
Some schools provide their students with a large number of heavy books; in other all-day schools, textbooks are no longer taken home, and others focus more on minimizing the weight of school materials. Our school bag has a padded back section, padded adjustable shoulder straps, an optional chest strap, and sits well on the back, making it a good choice for some, but certainly not for everyone.
