The ESKOLA is our school bag, designed for the weight and rhythm of a full school day. Everything has its place inside: heavy books sit close to the back, lunchbox and water bottle have their own compartments, and there is an extra pocket in the front for little treasures. Weighing around 850 grams, the ESKOLA is pleasantly lightweight so that the walk to school remains comfortable for even small shoulders.

Apart from the magnetic buckles, thread, and straps, the ESKOLA is made from renewable raw materials: water-repellent organic cotton on the outside, wool felt on the inside, and vegetable-tanned leather on the edges and bottom—exactly where a school bag needs to be most durable during daily school life. Our goal is to increase this share to 100%. Every ESKOLA is sewn in our studio in Berlin and is built to last the entire primary school period and then be passed on to younger siblings. Nora originally designed it for her own daughter, and today it is our most famous piece.

Interior

The interior is divided into three compartments. The rear compartment sits directly against the back, so the weight of books and notebooks is carried close to the body. This compartment is also made of water-repellent organic cotton, providing extra protection for notebooks and books. The main compartment has room for a pencil case, lunchbox, and water bottle. In the front, there is a dedicated pocket for smaller items so they are protected and easy to find.
There is a zippered pocket in the flap for personal items. The keys hang from a snap hook, and a webbing loop holds the water bottle upright so nothing tips over or spills.

Carrying comfort and visibility
The back panel and shoulder straps are padded, and the length of the straps can be adjusted. This ensures the ESKOLA sits comfortably throughout the entire school day. Reflective piping on the edges and on the leather trim at the front ensures that your child is clearly visible on dark winter mornings and afternoons.

Buckle
The magnetic FIDLOCK buckles open with a simple pull downwards and snap shut almost automatically when closing. Even small hands can manage this without any help.
Chest strap
The ESKOLA fits so well on the back that most children do not need a chest strap. If you would still like one, you can simply order it, and we will sew it directly onto the bag.

Organic cotton
The organic cotton is a triple-twisted panama weave, woven and dyed in Germany and Italy. This fabric was originally developed for workwear. It is correspondingly robust and abrasion-resistant, yet feels pleasantly soft. It is impregnated with a PFC-free C0 finish that lets rain bead off and requires no harmful chemicals. It is made for everything that a school day entails.
Care: It is best to brush off loose dirt while dry. You can also simply tap out dust, just like with a pillow. Small stains can usually be removed with a slightly damp microfiber cloth, preferably without soap. For a more thorough cleaning, work some mild soapy water (a mild shampoo or wool detergent works well) into the fabric with a soft brush and then wipe with clear water. This ensures no soap residue remains in the fabric, which could otherwise leave rings. Pat the bag dry with a towel and let it air dry, keeping some distance from heaters and direct heat.

Wool felt
The inner lining is wool felt from Italy, made from 75% recycled wool from New Zealand and 25% polyester. It gives the bag its shape, cushions the back, and is breathable. Wool balances heat and cold, so it stays comfortable against the back.
Care: The felt sits protected inside and does not require any special care. If something does spill, dab the area with a damp cloth and let the bag dry in the air while left open.

Vegetable-tanned leather
The edges and bottom of the ESKOLA are reinforced with vegetable-tanned leather from Italy. It protects the areas that take the most wear and tear during school life and becomes more beautiful every year: through touch, light, and use, it develops a patina that grows increasingly deep. Every mark it collects tells a piece of your child’s school life.
Care: Wipe the leather with a slightly damp cloth to remove surface dirt. You can even out water stains or dry spots by rubbing the area and the surrounding surface with the damp cloth. About once a year, the leather appreciates a natural, colorless leather wax or oil to nourish and protect it. Make sure that none of it gets on the fabric, as it can leave stains.

Fittings
The magnetic buckles are by FIDLOCK, the sliders and snap hooks are made of aluminum. They do not require any special care.
Natural materials change over time. Colors may darken slightly or become softer, and that is precisely where you see what your bag is made of.
