ESKOLA | undercover constable

The ESKOLA is our school bag, made for the weight and rhythm of a full school day.
Everything inside has its designated place: heavy books sit close to the back, lunchbox and water
bottle have their own compartment, and there is an extra front pocket for little treasures. Weighing
around 850 grams, the ESKOLA is comfortably light, ensuring the walk to school remains easy on
small shoulders.

Apart from the magnetic closures, thread, and straps, the ESKOLA is made from renewable
materials: water-repellent organic cotton on the outside, wool felt on the inside, and vegetable-tanned
leather on the edges and base—exactly where a school bag needs to withstand the most in daily
school life. Our goal is to bring this share to 100%. Every ESKOLA is sewn in our studio in Berlin,
and it is built to last throughout primary school and then be passed on to younger siblings. Nora
originally designed it for her own daughter; today, it is our best-known piece.

Interior

The interior is divided into three compartments. The rear compartment sits directly against the
back, so the weight of books and notebooks is carried close to the body. This compartment is also
made of water-repellent organic cotton, providing extra protection for notebooks and books. The
main compartment has room for a pencil case, lunchbox, and water bottle. There is a separate
front pocket for smaller items so they stay protected and are easy to find again.
A zippered pocket for personal items is located in the flap. The key hangs from a carabiner, and a
webbing loop keeps the water bottle upright so that nothing tips over or leaks.

Carrying comfort and visibility
The back panel and shoulder straps are padded, and the strap lengths can be adjusted. This
ensures the ESKOLA sits comfortably throughout the school day. Reflective piping on the edges
and on the leather trim at the front ensures that your child is clearly visible on dark winter
mornings and afternoons.

Closure
The magnetic FIDLOCK closures open with a simple downward pull and snap shut almost by
themselves. Even small hands can manage this without any help.
Chest strap
The ESKOLA sits so well on the back that most children do not need a chest strap. If you still
want one, you can simply order it, and we will sew it directly onto the bag.

Organic cotton
The organic cotton is a triple-twisted panama weave, woven and dyed in Germany and Italy.
Originally developed for workwear, this fabric is robust and abrasion-resistant while still feeling
pleasantly soft. It is treated with a PFC-free C0 finish that causes rain to bead off and contains
no harmful chemicals. It is made for everything that school life entails.
Care: It is best to brush off loose dirt while dry. You can also simply knock out dust as you
would a cushion. Small stains can usually be removed with a slightly damp microfiber cloth,
preferably without soap. For a more thorough cleaning, work some mild soapy water (a mild
shampoo or wool detergent works well) into the fabric with a soft brush and then wipe with
clear water. This prevents soap residue from remaining in the fabric, which could otherwise leave
stains. Dab the bag dry with a towel and let it air dry, away from heaters or direct heat.

Wool felt
The inner lining is wool felt from Italy, made from 75% recycled wool from New Zealand and 25%
polyester. It gives the bag its shape, cushions the back, and is breathable. Wool balances warmth
and cooling, keeping the back comfortable.
Care: The felt sits protected inside and does not require special care. If something does spill,
dab the area with a damp cloth and leave the bag open to air dry.

Vegetable-tanned leather
The edges and base of the ESKOLA are reinforced with vegetable-tanned leather from Italy. It
protects the areas that receive the most wear and tear during school and becomes more beautiful
each year: touch, light, and use create a patina that deepens over time. Every mark it gathers tells
a part of your child’s school life.
Care: Wipe the leather with a slightly damp cloth to remove surface dirt. You can even out water
spots or dry areas by rubbing the area and the surrounding surface with a damp cloth. About
once a year, the leather appreciates a natural, colorless leather wax or oil to nourish and protect it.
Make sure none of it gets on the fabric, as it can leave stains there.

Fittings
The magnetic closures are by FIDLOCK, the sliders and carabiners are made of aluminum. They
do not require any special care.
Natural materials change over time. Colors may darken slightly or become softer, and that is
exactly where the character of your bag shows.
